4 Tips to Keep Your Lawn Healthy Through the Summer

Summer is a time for outdoor fun, BBQs, and spending quality time with family and friends. But with the increase in temperature and sun exposure, your lawn may start to show signs of stress. At Miller Lawn Maintenance, we understand the importance of maintaining a lush, green lawn, even during the hottest months of the year. Here are four tips to keep your lawn healthy and vibrant all summer.

1. Water Wisely

The best time to water your lawn is early in the morning, ideally between 4 AM and 10 AM. This allows the water to penetrate the soil deeply before the heat of the day causes it to evaporate. Watering your lawn deeply but less frequently encourages the roots to grow deeper into the soil. Avoid evening watering as it can lead to prolonged moisture on the grass blades, creating an ideal environment for diseases and fungi.

2. Mow Correctly

Set your mower blade higher during the summer months. Longer grass blades shade the soil, reducing water evaporation and protecting the roots from heat. For most lawns, a height of 3-4 inches is ideal. Keep your mower blades sharp to ensure clean cuts, as dull blades can tear the grass and cause stress. Regular mowing promotes healthy growth, so aim to cut no more than one-third of the grass blade at each mowing.

3. Feed Your Lawn

We recommend a slow-release fertilizer formulated for summer use. This helps provide essential nutrients without promoting excessive growth that requires frequent mowing and more water. However, avoid over-fertilizing, as too much fertilizer can burn your lawn and increase its need for water. It's important to always follow the product instructions carefully.

4. Follow a Smart Lawn Care Schedule

Finally, you should develop a consistent lawn care routine. Regular watering, mowing, and feeding are key to maintaining a healthy lawn. If you're unsure about the best practices for your lawn or need assistance, don't hesitate to contact a professional lawn care service like Miller Lawn Maintenance. We offer customized lawn care plans to meet the unique needs of your yard.
